| August, 2006 , marked the sixth annual Ecology Day Camp for youth in the community. Participants enjoyed an overview of the plants and animals native to this vast thornscrub savannah known as the Tamaulipan Biotic Province, the most biologically diverse region on the globe. | ||||||||||||||

| High points of the wildlife observed on various outings include Green herons, caracaras, catfish, black rock squirrel, feral hog, whitetail deer, and green anole lizards. Various snakes, butterflies, dragonflies, and many other bird species were studied. | ||||||||||||||

| Youths participating in this year's Camp included: Raquel and Robert Espinoza; Thaliza and Ray Martinez; Jesus Martinez; Amanda Grebenock; Frank and Eileen Gallegos; Romelia Gomez; Denisse and Susana Zavala; Saul, Mauricio, and Diego Hernandez; and Enrique and Suzette Salinas.
