Ecology Camp 2007
August 5-9, 2007 saw the Ecology Camp adventures exploring the Tamaulipan, Chihauahuan and Texas Hill Country biotic provinces. Wildlife instruction on native species was conducted by Randy Laurence, biologist and one of the Nature Center's board of directors.
The group toured Seminole Caverns State Park, San Felipe Springs, Kickapoo Caverns State Park, Fort Clark Springs and the Rio Grande.
What better way to explore a natural spring on a hot August day?
Roadside lessons introduced explorers to the Texas tortoise, a protected species. Transportation for tha Camp was provided by a grant from the Rio Grande-Nueces Rural Community & Development Area, Inc.
Spelunkers head for a breakdown cave in the limestone formations at Kickapoo Caverns State Park on the edge of the Hill Country biosphere.
Sand and clay deposits laid down by the might Rio Grande get a close inspection by participants in the 7th Annual Ecology Day Camp. Many of the children are participating for their third year.
