2. Importance of birds
3. Talk about food and sources
4. Look at nests
5. Study anatomy/flight feathers.
Day 2:
Insects: 1. Bug watch/collection
2. Bug list/types
3. Bug food and habits nitch/purpose
Animals: 1. Animal watch
(Lizards, snakes, rabbits, mice, turtles)
2. Animal list/types
3. Animal food/ habitats
Day 3:
Plant Collection Observation of habitat
Types/categories
Identification
Gardening with local plants
Day 4:
Rio Grande investigations: Study a map of the river: source and size/importance
Microscope of water critters
Turbidity
Wildlife
Test for impurities
Text for temperature
Test for dissolved oxygen
Discussion of issues: conservation, water use, pollution, flooding, erosion
Each child should have:
Ecology workbook (hard cover notebook)
Compartment collection box (clear plastic)
6 collection bottles (pill bottles w. lids)
4 tin cans w. lids coffee cans/plastic lids
Plant press (one thick newspaper)
Plastic jar for river water
Magnifying glass
Pens/colored markers
Hat
Sun glasses
Sun block
Mosquito repellent
Daypack
Water jug for drinking and washing
