Elementary School Project
The Nature Center is currently assisting teachers in Lee Elementary to install aquariums containing Rio Grande fish and vegetation so that students may experience participatory learning in the "Nitrogen Cycle."
Staff biologist, Randy Laurence, and son collect four species of Rio Grande fish for the students at Lee Elementary science classes: top minnows, silversides, black-tipped shiners, and mosquito fish. Twenty years ago the Rio Grande was home to twenty-two species of fish. It is now down to thirteen.
